Dragonfly Crochet Pattern (Garden Friends Series)

 This dragonfly pattern is part of my beginner friendly Garden Friends series! This pattern is perfect for beginners and has a video tutorial for better understanding if you are a visual learner. This pattern is worked in 5 separate pieces, the body, long wings x2, short wings x2. This ia an easy, beginner friendly crochet project and a pretty quick work up if you are in a rush. 

Supplies: 

  • 4mm hook
  • weight 4 yarn (lighter pink, purple, tan)
  • stuffing
  • scissors 
  • 6mm safety eyes
  • crochet needle
Abbreviations for the Garden Friends Series:
  • st - stitch
  • r - row/round
  • ch - chain
  • mr - magic ring
  • sc - single crochet
  • inc - 2 stitches in one space
  • dec - crocheting 2 stitches together
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • BLO - back loop only
  • f/o - fasten off
  • * - repeat section
  • [] - total stitch count at end of row
Pattern starts HERE:
you will be working in continuous rounds (no sl st)

*with Tan*

Start by: creating a magic ring

R1: sc6 in mr [6]

R2: inc6 [12]

R3-R7: sc12 around [12]
-place safety eyes now, between R4 and R5 (2 stitches apart)-

R8: *sc, dec* repeat around [8]
-stuff at this point and continue stuffing the body as you crochet-

R9-R21: sc8 around [8]

R22:  dec4 [4]

f/o, weave in end to close hole-

Antennas:
make a slip knot and attach yarn to right antenna spot, ch4, sl st back down x3, cut yarn, pull long strand through the left antenna spot, ch4, sl st 3, pull yarn through, f/o (this part is a little complicated please see video explanation if you are having trouble!)

Long Wings: 
*with lighter color*
Lets start with the longer wings (make 2)

Start by: ch 14

R1: start in 3rd chain from hook, hdc12, place 2 more hdc in the last stitch before continuing and working along the backside of the chain, hdc 12 on the backside.

*switch to darker color*

R2: ch 1, sc12, inc2, sc12
f/o

Create smaller wings: 
*with lighter color*

Start by ch7

R1: start in 3rd chain from hook, hdc5, place 2 more hdc in the last stitch before continuing and working along the backside of the chain, hdc 5 on the backside.

R2: ch 1, sc5, inc2, sc5 
f/o

-attach wings with bottom wings slightly under top wings like picture-
